What should you do before an Earthquake
- First of all you need to make sure that you have a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, a battery-powered broadcasting, a flashlight, and some extra batteries at home.
- Learn how to first aid.
- Know how to turn off the gas, water, and electricity.
- Make a plan of for the place where to meet your family after an earthquake.
- Don’t put down heavy stuffs on shelves (they could fall during an earthquake).
- Secure your heavy furniture, closet, and appliances to the walls or to the floor.
- Know the earthquake plan from your school, workplace or from web site.
What should you do during a Earthquake
- Stay cool! If you’re inside, stay inside. If you’re outside, wait outside.
- If you’re inside, try to stand against a wall near the center of the building, stand in a entrance way, or move slowly under heavy furniture (a desk or a table) and try to stay away from your windows and outside doors.
- If you’re outdoors during an earthquake, stay in the open away from power lines or anything that might fall on you. Stay away from any kind of buildings (different stuffs might fall off the building or the building could fall on you).
- Never use any kind of matches, candles or any flame. The broken gas line and the fire could be mix.
- If you’re in a car or on a motorbike then try to stop the vehicle and stay inside the car until the earthquake stops.
- Never use elevators during the earthquake (they’ll probably get trapped anyway).
What should you do after an Earthquake
- Verify yourself and others for major and minor injuries. Provide them first aid who needs it.
- Verify your gas-line, water supply, and electrical wares for any damages. If any of these are damaged, shut down the valves fo the gas line. Reconfirm for the smell of the gas
- Switch on the broadcasting by the battery. Don’t use your phone unless it’s an important or emergency.
- Leave the damaged buildings.
- Try to stay away from any damaged area and beaches.
